Review of Dovpo X Across Pump Squonker Kit
The device is sold in a weighty black matte box, with the logos of the co-authors and the name of the squonk itself printed on the lid in either transparent or black lacquer. On the back there is a sticker with the name of the color design of the case and inscriptions made in white paint. Among them you can find a list of the kit, links to Across Vape resources, address and details of Dovpo, as well as an indication that all this beauty is designed by the first and manufactured by the second in China. There is also a sticker with the originality verification, which can be done on a special website either by entering the 16-digit code under the erasable strip or simply by scanning the QR.

Under the cover in a foam mold we are greeted by the device itself and an adapter for 18650 batteries, which for some reason was not stuffed into the battery compartment, as all manufacturers usually do.

Among the pile of waste paper we found a manual with color illustrations in English and a 15% discount coupon for Across Vape devices on the Dovpo website. So far, there are only two joint devices: this squonk and The Roulette RTA tank.

A small but pleasant surprise was the branded heat shrink that you can decorate your batteries with. Two of the four braids (pictured above – left) are for 21700 batteries, the other two are for the more common 18650.

The device, like all new devices from Dovpo, can be called both austere and stylish at the same time. A slit reminiscent of the cutout in Magneto’s helmet opens up a view of the battery compartment in almost all its glory. In the area of the battery compartment and under the atomizer the body is rounded, all other surfaces are practically flat. On the front side there is a control panel – two buttons and an indicator, between them there is a milled inscription with the name of the device, the opposite one is without any markings. The shape of the CNC-milled body personally reminded me something between the old iPower and iStick TC 100W and the newer Driptech-DS. All surfaces, except for the buttons, are matte, and the coating is anodized, so it doesn’t collect fingerprints and doesn’t slip in your hands.

The manufacturer can not please us with a special variety of colors, there is only steel, “gun metal” and black boxmod to choose from. Perhaps a couple more bright glamorous colors would attract the attention of a less conservative audience?

On top of the connector there is another inscription, also milled, but with the names of the co-creators Dovpo and Across Vape. The steel platform of the connector has a size ∅21,5 mm with two screws fixing the connector in the body. There is also a small recess where the silicone oring is located. Its purpose is rather banal – to prevent the liquid from leaking out from under the atomizer, i.e. it seals the connection between the drip and the squonk. The plus pin is gold-plated and spring-loaded, it can be easily adjusted to the plus contact of the drip. Both top and bottom of the body there is a fastener that holds the parts of the device. Those who want to dig into the device will have to look for a Torx T5 screwdriver for these screws.

The can in the device has a volume of approx. 9 ml and is made not according to the “canon” – not of soft silicone, as everyone has long been used to, but of hard polycarbonate. And why silicone, if our squonk feeds liquid into the atomizer with the help of an electric pump? On the bottom of the tank there is an engraved arrow with the inscription OPEN, indicating in which direction it is necessary to unscrew the can. The bottom edge is reinforced with a steel ring with knurling for convenience, on top (on the thread of the mod) there is an oring, sealing the tank with liquid. Neither here, nor on the battery compartment lid, the quality of threads does not cause any complaints.

But a lot of questions are raised by the connection of the bottle and the device. As long-term practice shows, when it comes to threading, polycarbonate with steel is a bad match, something always cracks. And it’s clearly not stainless steel. I’ve already seen complaints online that the can just cracks from aggressive liquids. I think the manufacturer should change the material and reinforce the can with the same steel ring on top as at the bottom. Only with threads to add durability to the whole set-up. Especially since I haven’t seen the cans sold separately yet.
Comparison of Dovpo Pump Squonker Kit with 21700 and 18650 batteries
The Pump Squonker is powered by a single 21700 size battery. For compatibility with 18650, the kit adapter is made of the same color polycarbonate that the can is made of. Polarity is indicated right in the battery compartment – you can see it perfectly through the window. The inner contact, aka “plus”, is spring-loaded and allows you to adjust to different heights of batteries. But it also creates difficulties when screwing on the cover – the last turns sometimes come with a noticeable resistance.

If you are not happy with the battery’s native heat shrink, you can find the already mentioned Across Vape braid in the kit. The device will look much better with it than with a green or brown battery.

There are two slits on the battery cover besides the knurling – you can unscrew it even with your fingers by grasping the partition. Of course, if your fingers will fit through, I find it easier to use the knurling. Well, and since we’re talking about power supply, in order not to return to this question again, I’ll say that the board considered the battery with a voltage of about 3.24 V discharged. 3,24 В. Surprisingly, the pair did not experience any special sags until the end, so the fact that the battery was low (the indicator blinked five times) came as a surprise.
Indication and control of the Dovpo Pump Squonker
We won’t stay here for long, as the device is positioned by the manufacturer as “molumechanical”, i.e. it gives all the voltage to the battery, without giving the possibility to adjust the voltage or power. As you can already clearly see, the mod also has no charging connector, the battery will have to be charged in a separate charger. But still the device has on board some kind of board, which provides basic protection. Including the indication of events and errors, for which there is a green LED.

Two round buttons are used for control: the upper, slightly larger one is Fire, the lower one, just above the indicator is the Pump button. The buttons jingle faintly when shaking and rattle under your fingers. Pressing, despite the small height, is clear and confident, with a soft metallic click. The device is switched on and off by a standard fivefold press on Fire, in the off state the pump button also doesn’t work. But it can be switched off and on separately – in the same way by pressing it five times.

When you press the Pump button, liquid starts to flow into the atomizer. At the same time you can hear and feel the work of the pump – buzzing and slight vibration in your hand allow you to unmistakably realize that it is working. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not indicate how much volume the pump pumps in a second, so you will have to get accustomed to its work. From personal experience, I can say that a fully dried winding in Ammit MTL RDA will take five to seven seconds to refill. In short, it is easier to underfill the drip than to overfill it. Unlike designs with silicone bottles. And what is important, there is no outflow, i.e. after releasing the Pump button the liquid does not flow back into the tank. The pump is electric and there is a valve, so everything you put into the dripper will stay there.

One of the questions I had was whether or not I would be able to collect all the liquid from the container. Yes, pretty much everything without a residue the Pump Squonker can pump into your drip. The liquid intake tube reaches almost all the way to the bottom, and is closer to the far wall opposite the control panel. So, when there is almost nothing left on the bottom, you just need to tilt the device a bit in the right direction and press the Pump button.
Impressions and conclusions
Pump Squonker will please its owner not only with its vibro-motor for automatic liquid delivery, but also with its quality of manufacturing (there is nothing to be queried here), excellent appearance, compactness (it is actually small with its capabilities), easy refilling, leak-proof connector design and trouble-free operation.
